The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informed on Friday that from April 1, 2020 to May 21, 2020, the Income Tax Department has issued a total refund of Rs 26,242 crore to 16 lakh 84 thousand 298 taxpayers.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes gave information about this on Friday and said that rapid work is being done by the Income Tax Department in this direction. The department gave a breakup of income tax refund and said that income tax refund of Rs 14,632 crore was given to 15,81,906 individual assessors and Rs 11,610 crore was given to 1,02,392 assessors as corporate tax refund.
The Income Tax Department said that the refund withdrawal process has been expedited after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Self-Reliant India Scheme last week.
