The lockdown has ended in India, but the cases of people suffering from Corona virus are still increasing. At the same time there is growing fear inside people. Even when the lockdown was in force in India, everyone was sitting at home, but the writers’ mind was still active. Meanwhile, Sanjay Masoom, who wrote dialogues for films like Jannat, Jannat 2, Murder 3, Krrish 3, Gunday, Kolanchal, Raja Natwarlal, Kaabil, Ghayal Once Again, has composed two short films.

In a special conversation with Web4Study, Sanjay mentioned the entire process of making these two films and all the troubles that occurred during this. Sharing his experience of lockdown, Sanjay said, ‘I am a writer, my work is always done from home. Therefore, there is nothing new for me. But, there are many people who are suffering in this period. In this phase of lockdown, news and photographs of migrant laborers forced Sanjay to make these films. He explains, ‘The news of the migrant laborers getting media was disturbing. Some are going to their house on bicycle and some on foot. It is said to have been the biggest exodus after the Partition of India. All these things have troubled me as a film writer.

Before making these films, Sanjay used to be the only screenwriter and dialogue writer. Regarding deciding to direct these films, Sanjay said, ‘Now I could not make a film in such an environment by writing a story on it and talking to a filmmaker. So, I thought of doing everything myself. During this time I wrote two stories on which a short film ‘The Migrants’ has been made and the other is ‘The Invitation’.

Sanjay has worked on these films in a very small way. Describing them the process of filming, he said, ‘I live on the tenth floor of a building in Malad. In front of my flat is a girl’s flat which is an actress and model. Her name is Manisha Rawat and she is like my baby girl. She would be 25 to 26 years old and she was single at that time. After writing my story, I thought that I could make my films with it. When I had my iPhone, we shot the film with the same camera. My son Altamash Srivastava is a sound engineer. He and I have shot this film together. Overall we three people shot this film.

His first film directed by Sanjay has been released. Expressing his happiness on this, he says, ‘When the film was shot and when the first cut of it came to me after editing, I thought that what I wanted to tell through this story, that thing is being seen in the film. . Then I got this film professionally designed. Then we released it on 3 July. Every writer wants to become a director too. (Laughs) And this lockdown made me a director. ‘

With the release of a film, the shooting of Sanjay’s second film ‘The Invitation’ has also been completed and now his post production work is still pending. This film also tells about the effect on the mind of people during the time of lockdown. Sanjay told, ‘People are going to jobs and how they are committing suicide in the event of no work, or if a girl is living alone in this environment then what is the effect of this environment on her The This film throws light on that. ‘ Sanjay has given a horror genre to both these films so that the situation can be better explained. He ends his talk by saying, ‘I have kept the horror of these two films, but it does not scare people, but a bit disturbing psychologically. Because, our aim is not to scare people, but to convince them. We also had limited resources during the shoot, so I thought to put this genre in it.
