India is seeking to further strengthen its capability to hit ground targets amid growing tensions with neighboring China. India plans to purchase a lethal and more capable version of the Spice-2000 bombs to further strengthen its capability. This bomb was used effectively to destroy the Pakistani terrorist camp in Balakot city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province last year.
The bomb is planned to be acquired as part of emergency financial powers given to the military in view of tensions with China. Government sources said that the Indian Air Force already has Spice-2000 bombs. Now the Air Force plans to acquire more stand-off weapons, such as the Spice-2000 bomb, under emergency powers granted by the government.
He said that the Spice-2000 bomb could hit targets up to 70 kilometers. Newer versions of the Air Force can also destroy bunkers and buildings. The Narendra Modi government has given emergency financial powers to the three Army wings for purchase of up to Rs 500 crore per purchase project for purchasing arms and ammunition.
