Flywheel throw athlete Sandeep Kumari has been banned by the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) Athletics Integrity Unit for four years for failing a doping test. About two years ago, the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) got his sample correct.

NDTL failed to detect the banned substance – steroid – that was present in their sample. The sample was taken by NADA officials during the National Interstate Championship in June 2018 in Guwahati.

Kumari won the gold medal with a throw of 58.41 meters. Wada decided to test the virgin sample at a Montreal laboratory in Canada and in November 2018 it came positive for the anabolic steroid metanolone.

Kumari’s results from 26 June 2018 to 21 November 2018 will be canceled. Wada announced on Friday night that his four-year ban would begin on 26 June 2018, the day he was sampled.

Not only Kumari but also the 2017 Asian champion Nirmala Sheoran’s sample came negative in NDTL’s investigation but it was found positive in Montreal’s test. Zuma Khatoon was also banned for four years last month.
