The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football Associations (CONCACAF) has changed its World Cup qualifying format to eight teams instead of six due to the Corona virus epidemic and not starting until next June.

Concacaf announced Monday, America, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras have been given a bye and will enter the format for eight straight teams. The other 30 CONCACAF countries will compete for three other places in the final round.

The eight-team format will start from June next year, with each team playing four matches in the FIFA international match window in June. After this, two matches each will be played in September, October and November 2021 and in January and March 2022.

The top three teams from these eight teams will directly enter the tournament in Qatar in 2022 while the fourth-placed team will compete in the intercontinental playoffs. The preliminary matches will start in September to make it to the eight teams.
